Engage!11 Grand Cayman
The Caribbean called again for a return trip to the popular destination in November 2011. Engagees came with sandals and sarongs, ready to engage and relax. The welcome party, held on Seven Mile Beach, showcased local culture, with local cuisine, live music from Cayman’s own Swanky Kitchen Band, and wood-frame canvas-topped custom lounge cabanas that screamed island chic.
Taking a cue from TED Talks, speakers were limited to 22 minutes each, allowing a greater number of participants to share their insights. This was the first appearance by NYC real-estate maven (and Shark Tank star) Barbara Corcoran, who wowed with her insight for delivering what people want (but don’t ask for), and mingled with Engagees all week long. Meanwhile, Engage! darling Marcy Blum gave practical advice on getting clients (“In order to sell, you have to listen).
The inaugural collaboration with branding mavens Heather Arak and Susan Turnock of Gifts for the Good Life introduced a whole new level of gifting and event branding, all custom designed for the event. The event theme was Island Inspired incorporating natural materials, indigenous island elements, and pops of the modern lime, purple and jute palette. Attendees also went home with autographed copies of It’s All About the Dress by Engage! favorite Randy Fenoli.
During down time, Engagees boarded private catamarans for a group sail to Stingray City and beach time at Rum Point before prepping for the Gala. Held under white Raj Tents in The Ritz-Carlton’s Grand Cayman Royal Ballroom, the gala was designed by Jo-Anne Brown of Celebrations Ltd. and inspired by the deep purple & lime event palette topped of by a packed dance floor with tunes spun by the island’s own DJ Craig.
