Susan Moynihan

Editor-in-Chief: Modern Luxury Brides, Founder: The Honeymoonist

Susan Moynihan has specialized in romance travel for more than 15 years, exploring destinations from Argentina to Zanzibar and touring countless hotels along the way. She comes by her passion naturally: As the daughter of a Navy officer, she traveled extensively as a child, and fell in love with hotel life at age 9 in Oslo, Norway, when her family enjoyed an extended stay during yet another move.

After settling down in Annapolis, she attended University of Maryland, College Park, to study English and Art History. After graduation, a love of media and The Ramones led her to New York City, where she began a magazine career, first as a music writer and then as an editor at Woman’s Day. It was at the latter that she discovered travel writing, and decided to focus on romance travel. As a travel editor at Condé Nast’s Modern Bride and Elegant Bride, she covered the luxury honeymoon market and implemented coverage on the burgeoning trend of destination weddings. In 2005 she relocated to Florida and spent eight years as editor in chief of Destination Weddings & Honeymoons. She also acted as editor on chief for SPA magazine, focusing on wellness and sustainable beauty, and Florida Travel + Life, the state’s leading travel magazine.

In September 2013 she joined Modern Luxury as editor in chief of Modern Luxury Brides/South Florida and The Caribbean, where she focuses on the luxury market. Concurrently, in December 2014 she launched The Honeymoonist, Inc., a boutique content-and-planning site affiliated with Virtuoso that offers a custom approach to luxury honeymoons and destination wedding travel. She also consults with select clients in the hospitality, wedding and wellness industries on media, branding and digital strategies. She has appeared as a romance travel expert on the Travel Channel and Lifetime TV networks, and has spoken at conferences including the Destination Hotels Travel Summit and the Engage Luxury Wedding Business Summit.
